Large numbers of ethnic Mexican migrants began arriving in Northern Colorado during the early twentieth century as agricultural labor needs increased. While sugar beet work shaped the region's memory of this community, this project brings nuance by showcasing cultural, environmental, spiritual, and gendered dimensions of ethnic Mexican life. It also highlights connections to New Mexico and broader borderlands history.
🌵 Research Trip Review: July 2025 in New MexicoIn mid-2025, I received an Off-Campus Graduate Student Award from BYU's Charles Redd Center for Western Studies to travel to Northern New Mexico. This trip sought to trace the roots of Fort Collins families like the Romeros and explore cross-regional ties. Though cut short by a car accident, the journey deepened my understanding of the Land of Enchantment’s link to Northern Colorado.
